The Women’s has been providing specialist care to women and newborn babies for over 160 years, and has an international reputation for innovation and excellence.
We have a special place in health care in Victoria, providing not only high quality clinical care to women and babies, but also acting as an advocate for women’s health in the broadest sense. Clinical services are provided within a social model of health framework.
The Women’s is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to attracting and retaining a diverse workforce that reflects the community we serve. Applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders are encouraged. Please see our Aboriginal employment page for more information.
In June 1995 we were the first public hospital in Australia to be accredited as a Baby Friendly Hospital by the Baby Friendly Health Initiative Australia (BFHI). Since then we have been through six accreditation cycles. A Baby Friendly facility ensures the best standard of evidence based care is provided for mothers and babies and provides consistent care and support for mothers to make an informed decision about breastfeeding.
Growing our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workforce under the Victorian Government’s Karreeta Yirramboi (meaning grow tomorrow) initiative, is just one way that we ensure our Aboriginal patients receive culturally appropriate careLearn more
