We encourage you to think about feeding your baby from very early in your pregnancy.
This is so that you can consider what the issues might be for you and you can talk about them with your midwife or doctor. Breast milk provides all the nutrition that your baby needs for the first six months of their life. There are benefits for both you and your baby if you breastfeed. Your baby is protected from infections, allergies and a range of other medical conditions and breastfeeding protects you from developing ovarian cancer and osteoporosis, as well as helping you to return to your pre-pregnancy weight. It is also very convenient and reasonably fuss-free. Breastfeeding has to be learned. It's not always easy to begin with, but for most who persist, breastfeeding gets much easier.
