Perineal Clinic

The Perineal Clinic at the Women's takes referrals for all women who have had anal sphincter tears.

The Women's also provides 3D ultrasound and ano-rectal manometry

Specialities

  • Anal sphincter tears
  • Anal, vaginal or perineal tears not healing (within the first six months after the birth)
  • Perineal pain (within the first six months after the birth)
  • Problems with wound healing or infection (within the first six months after the birth)

Clinical inclusions

  • Postpartum women who have had a 3rd or 4th degree tear during childbirth

Clinical exclusions

  • Postpartum women who have had a 3rd or 4th degree tear must be within six months

Wednesday 1:30am – 5:00pm

Outpatient clinics: Wednesday afternoon

Triage

In your referral please include the following or the referral cannot be processed:

  • Date of delivery
  • Mode of delivery
  • Type of anal sphincter tear
  • All investigations
  • Mobility problems

Appointment

An acknowledgement letter will be sent directly to the patient and the GP will be notified. The patient will then receive a letter with the appointment details.
