Considering all aspects of health

Clinicians across the hospital help identify support needs for women, gender-diverse people, babies and families in our care. This relates to freedom from violence, access to housing, culture and identity. It also covers mental health, substance abuse issues and more.

These factors are as important as access to medical treatment.

The social model of health aligns clinical and social supports for comprehensive care. We aim to reduce systemic inequalities that impact health outcomes.

Trauma and violence informed care

Many women arrive at the Women's as survivors of trauma, which can include family or sexual violence and sexual harassment. Some women and children who came to Australia have faced war and conflict, or may have experienced cultural practices like female genital cutting.

At the Women's, we underpin everything we do with a trauma- and violence-informed approach to care. Our healthcare teams provide care that is compassionate and tailored to every individual.
