Accommodation options

We understand that some of our patients and families come from outside our local area and need to stay near our hospital to access care or to support a loved one.

In this situation, we advise individuals and families to look at the various accommodation options available in our local area. If you contact them directly and let them know you need accommodation close to hospital, many are able to offer discounted rates.

Patient accommodation websites

There are some websites that provide information on accommodation options located near a specific hospital. These include motels, hotels and apartments. In some cases, these websites offer discounted rates and if eligible, you may be able to access additional support through the Victorian Patient Transport Assistance Scheme (VPTAS).

Ronald McDonald House North Fitzroy

Vizard House East Melbourne

Victorian Patient Transport Assistance Scheme

Victorian residents who reside more than 100km from a hospital they need to travel to for specialist treatment may be eligible for financial assistance with travel and accommodation costs under the Victorian Patient Transport Assistance Scheme (VPTAS).

VPTAS is a subsidy scheme and does not reimburse all costs but it can provide people who are eligible with significant financial support. VPTAS is not means tested.

Patients wishing to access the scheme need to complete a VPTAS claim form, which is available from:

• The Women's Social Work Reception desk on the ground floor of our hospital in Parkville 

A medical specialist will need to complete some sections of the form before you can claim. 

Residents of other states who are patients of the Women's may be eligible for similar financial assistance under the following schemes:

• SA Patient Assistance Transport Scheme (PATS)
• WA Patient Assistance Transport Scheme (PATS)
• NT Patient Assistance Travel Scheme (PATS)
