Once your baby is well enough, either you will be able to take them home or they will be transferred to another hospital.
If your baby is going home from the Women’s, if possible you will be offered rooming in for one or two nights before discharge. There are family rooms in NICU that allow you to be together and to fully care for your baby with support from nursing staff.
When you go home, your care manager may arrange for you to have regular visits from the neonatal Hospital in the Home (HITH) nurses.
You may also need to attend appointments with specialists at our newborn follow-up clinic.
If transferring to another hospital, a neonatal nurse will care for your baby throughout the move assisted by the Newborn Emergency Transport Service (PIPER).
